Arlati's Biography

Mario Arlati

Mario Arlati was born in Milan in 1947. After some years of erratic studies, his artistic formation matured at the School of Art in Castello Sforzesco, Milan. Following his artistic inclination, his first works were purely figurative style, but in the 1970s he discovered his true dimension in Ibiza, the smallest of the Balearic islands. Since then, Mario Arlati has lived and worked in Ibiza many months of the year and his paintings bear clear witness to this artistic transformation.

From figurative works he has moved on to a more informal materic style, following in the footsteps of the Spanish school of art. His “walls” are a representation of the bright, sunny atmosphere of the island, of the symbiosis created between man and nature and the incessant corrosion from the sun, the wind and the sea, which in turn gives life to unique, incomparable objects. According to Arlati, the surface of his “walls” seems to conceal other matter inside. He expresses himself through defined colors – black and white; the actual pictorial movement gives meaning to the word poetic which is fundamentally an incalculable pictorial gesture, a visual genesis.

Mario Arlati continues to split his time between Milan and Ibiza. He is represented with exclusivity right by Contini Art Gallery, Venice-Cortina d’Ampezzo
